Andy put his arm around Missy and pulled her close. “Are you ready?”
“With you? Yes. Ready for anything.”
Chapter 39
Transcript from NBC Nightly News, senior foreign political analyst Thomas Yearns reporting.
Tonight, in a stunning turn of events, the two religious terrorists who have plagued the Middle East for the past three and a half years have been killed. Facts are sketchy at best, but initial reports reveal a highly trained special forces unit of the United Arab/Aryan Brotherhood carried out a covert operation, which resulted in the death of both individuals.
The attack took place in Jerusalem on the corner of Rashba Street and Ramban Street near the Israeli Parliamentary Building at a little after nine o’clock local time.
Both bodies remain in the street, and bystanders have gathered to celebrate. Images of the scene have already been broadcast via satellite around the globe.
The man and woman, now reported to be Andrew Mayer and Melissa Abramov, both of Jewish descent but American citizens, began their reign of terror three and a half years ago with a series of gruesome murders. The pair is reportedly responsible for the deaths of over a hundred and sixty individuals over that period of time. They were also reportedly responsible for destructive weather patterns and phenomena around the world that claimed the lives of many more. Sources tell me the plot to capture or kill the duo has been in the planning stages for months, and many believe the attack came much too late.
Most believe this marks an important date for not only the Middle East but also for the world. While the instigators were successful in getting some to follow their teachings of hate and intolerance, most of the world’s citizens viewed them as terrorists of the most heinous kind. There is already talk of establishing this day as a worldwide holiday.
As always, we will continue to keep you updated as these events unfold. But for now, rest well and know that the world is a safer place.
Reporting from Jerusalem, Thomas Yearns.
Chapter 40
Transcript from British News Corporation, Headline News, world news correspondent Jamie Butler reporting.
The world is in shock. Utter shock. The two international terrorists known by some as “The Witnesses” are alive. I repeat—it is midnight here in Jerusalem and they are alive.
Killed three and a half days ago by special forces in a highly covert and well-planned attack, the duo’s bodies lay at the corner of Rashba and Ramban Streets in Jerusalem, located right behind me, untouched. So hated were they that their bodies were left to rot, many thinking they were not worthy of even an improper burial.
If you look just over my right shoulder, you can see the two standing almost motionless, faces turned skyward. They’ve been like that for nearly thirty minutes now. And, as you can see, a very hostile crowd has gathered around them. Fear is thick in this Jerusalem air. The terrorists are responsible for numerous deaths both in America and here in Israel, and the world celebrated when they were killed.
And now, inexplicably, they are alive.
The duo, recently identified as—
Oh, wait . . . what is happening? John, are you getting this?
For those viewing at home, John, our cameraman will attempt to capture what we are seeing in the sky above Jerusalem.
Are you getting it?
A massive storm front has just rolled in. The clouds . . . they’re boiling, churning. I’ve never seen anything like this.
Bloody . . . the clouds are parting. They are parting, just rolling back like a wave.
John, John! The ground. Look what’s happening. This is bloody unbelievable. The pair has lifted off the ground. Their feet are not on the ground. They are rising into the air. Ten meters, fifteen meters, twenty, thirty . . . Oh bloody sh—
[Loses transmission of video and audio]
John, did you get it? Did you get that?
The duo rose slowly into the air and then . . . just . . . I don’t even know how to explain it . . . they were gone, like they grew bloody rocket boosters on the bottoms of their feet and shot straight up through the hole in the clouds.
I have never seen anything like this, John. I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m sweating, crying, shaking all over. This is bloody incredible. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I would say anyone reporting this was bloody crazy. But I’m not crazy. Am I? John, am I crazy? You saw it too, right? Did you get it?
The scene here is one of utter panic and chaos. The crowd on the street has mostly dispersed, most running from the scene. I . . . I can’t believe what I just witnessed.
Uh, uh, reporting live from Jerusalem. Jamie, uh . . . this is bloody nuts. I don’t even remember my own name.
